Ringo Starr Reflects On His 35 Year Marriage - Updated

Legendary musician Ringo Starr is “beyond blessed” to still be married to wife of nearly 35 years Barbara Bach.

The former Beatles drummer met the one-time Bond girl on the set of the film Caveman in 1980 and married a year later. And after more than three decades together, their bond is stronger than ever.

“There’s no escape … I think I love Barbara as much (today) as I did (when we met),” he gushed to People magazine. “And I’m beyond blessed that she loves me and we’re still together.”

Ringo, 75, performed on the classic Beatles track All You Need is Love, and for Barbara there couldn’t be a truer sentiment.

“I love the man, and that’s it,” the 68-year-old added.

The pair has accumulated a lot of belongings together and, having now settled in Los Angeles, they have decided to sell off a lot of their precious memorabilia to raise money for charity.

“It’s time to let go,” Ringo explained.

Some of the items on sale include a guitar given to Ringo by band mate John Lennon, and an outfit Barbara wore in The Spy Who Loved Me opposite Roger Moore.

However, one of the biggest sellers is sure to be the first ever copy of the band’s 1968 album, The Beatles – more commonly known as the White Album due to its minimalist packaging.

It sold for $1,076,288!

Each unit of the record came with its own serial number stamped on the cover and Ringo is the owner of White Album No 0000001. Bidding on the record starts at $20,000 (£13,276), but it is estimated to fetch up to $60,000 (£39,670).

The items will be up for auction between 3-5 December (15) at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, with the proceeds of the sales benefitting Barbara’s charity, the Lotus Foundation.

Sir Paul McCartney To Induct Ringo Starr Into Hall Of Fame

 And about time!
Sir Paul McCartney is to induct former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Starr is the last of The Beatles receive the musical honour.

Sir Paul will usher in the 74-year-old at the 30th annual ceremony at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum next month.

The Beatles are already in the hall as a group, as are John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison as solo artists.

Other inductees will include Green Day, Lou Reed and Bill Withers.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, Starr said it meant "recognition" of his work.
He added: "And it means, finally, the four of us are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame even though we were the biggest pop group in the land."

Eagle Joe Walsh will perform some of Starr's music, while Withers' music will be performed by John Legend.

It is not known if Withers, who quit the music business more than 30 years ago, will sing himself.

Patti Smith will induct Reed, who died in 2013, while Beck will perform the Velvet Underground singer's music.

Joan Jett, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and the "5'' Royales will also be elevated to the elite musical club at the Cleveland ceremony.
Artists become eligible to enter the Hall of Fame 25 years after their first release.

Ringo Starr To Release Budget Edition Of Photograph Book

In 2013, Ringo Starr put out a limited edition book combining photos from his archives along with writings about his life.

Photograph was originally conceived as a limited edition book of only 2,500 copies, which sold out within weeks. Two years later, Ringo Starr and Genesis Publications announce the ‘Open Edition’ – a more accessible and affordable printing of his book to be released in bookstores this September. The author is donating all royalties to the Lotus Foundation.

In Photograph, Ringo Starr reveals never-before-seen photographs and mementos from his archives, sharing memories of his childhood, The Beatles and beyond. Ringo’s lens captures his Beatles bandmates in pensive and playful moments, portraying them from the point of view of an insider, friend and skilled photographer. In an original manuscript of over 15,000 words, join Ringo growing up amidst the excitement of the emerging Merseybeat scene, as he remembers his first car, drum-kits, girls and bands on his ‘road of happy drumming’.

From Pwllheli to Delhi, obscurity to superstardom, his travels are recounted with honesty and hilarity.

“I love pictures put together, showing different times of your life,” Ringo said about the book, “At the time, I never thought that there would be a whole book of my photographs.”
The book is set for a September 15 release in the U.S.

All week the show has been showcasing Harrison covers from various stars including (on Monday night) Beck, and last night the guest was Paul Simon.

Harkening back to his performance alongside Harrison in a 1976 Saturday Night Live episode, the singer performed a lovely cover of Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun (above).
