I had the pleasure of seeing Kenny Rogers when he came out with Dolly Parton back in the 1980's. It was a great show. Classic performance below!
Kenny Rogers is coming to Australia for the very last time.
Rogers is about to tour Australia and New Zealand under the name the Farewell Down Under Tour; however, it is not clear whether this is the beginning of a long retirement trek or just his last time to tour those countries. So far, he has said nothing about firm plans for a true retirement, but he did tell Rolling Stone last summer that the days was “close.”
Kenny, 76, has been at it for almost sixty years, from the mid-50’s with a rockabilly group called The Scholars through his days with the jazz group The Bobby Doyle Trio, the New Christy Minstrels, the First Edition and his very successful solo career.
Rogers did say, in a statement, how much the two countries have meant to him:
For all of the traveling I’ve done around the world, Australia and New Zealand remain two of my favourite places to perform. When I was with the First Edition, we made this same trip several times, and no matter how many times I’ve gone, I’ve always loved the audiences Down Under. They have a great sense of humour, and they’ve always treated me with such great respect, so for that, I say thank you.
